Hey everyone. The AFA is pleased to announce our first southern AZ event in a while. Brian Wood and Carissa Jonason are putting on a picnic Saturday, October 6th at 3 PM at Cam-Boh picnic area in Saguaro National Park just west of Tucson. AFA will provide meats for a main course; please bring something to share.
We are hoping for a great turnout. Come and meet other local falconers, talk falconry and birds, and celebrate the start of the hawking season! See you all there!

We have found recently that the AZGFD website is either not showing the apprentice packet or they are hiding it really well. I've notified the department but for now, here is the existing apprentice packet as individual files or the zip containing all of the PDFs.

According to the USFWS, their online reporting database for falconry 3-186A forms is down with no estimate of when it will be back up. NAFA has stated that a copy of completed paper forms should be mailed to the regional USFWS offices, but the Albuquerque office (our region) has said that is unnecessary because they have no filing systems to manage those forms anymore. I have reached out to the main USFWS office in Washington to get some clear direction on this.
For the time being, our recommendation is that you should take or mail completed 3-186A forms to your regional AZGFD office. They will maintain your file. Once a new reporting DB is in place, we will update you with the USFWS directions for reporting.
The Arizona Falconers Association is proud to announce that our annual Desert Hawking Classic this winter is also a NAFA regional meet!
Update - The banquet has been finalized. Banquet night tickets will be $35 per person. This includes happy hour, appetizers, full buffet dinner, our guest speaker, and the raffle. Tickets will be available at registration.
The Apprentice workshop will be held Saturday morning starting at 9 AM.
Please register online if you will be attending the banquet.
The DHC will be held Jan 28-31 2016, in Kingman Arizona at the same hotel as before, which is now the Ramada Kingman. We have negotiated a discount rate. Single rooms will be $69.99 and double rooms will be $79.99. Rates do not include taxes. If we get enough rooms, the rate will discount further, and the discount will be reflected in your final bill.
Please make your reservations early. Call the hotel directly and let them know you are with the Arizona Falconers group.

We are planning an apprentice workshop, an acoustic guitar jam, nightly events, a banquet, a special guest speaker, and, of course, the world-famous AFA raffle!
Plenty of local gamehawking is available. Game is good in Arizona again this year! Bunnies, jacks, and quail abound. Bring your birds and fly 'em hard!
If you have questions about the meet, you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
See you in Kingman!
The 2015 AFA summer picnic is coming back to Prescott Saturday August 22nd. It will be in the group picnic area at Thumb Butte. Details to follow soon, but mark the date now!
The USGS National Wildlife Health Center has released an update on the Avian Influenza outbreak. You can view the update here
This has relevance to falconers, so it's worth your time to read and understand it.
Charlie Kaiser and Pam Hessey will host the first mini meet of the season in Kingman, AZ, on Saturday, December 13, 2014. There will be no formal meetings of the AFA and no organized hunting parties, but game is plentiful around Kingman, so falconers will find game. Please respect the local falconers by focusing on the south side of town. We have always found great hawking South and Southeast of the airport.
Charlie and Pam will host a dinner at their home at 6:30 PM. They are famous for their cooking! Please show up with some food and drink to add to the feast!
Charlie's contact info can be found on the Officers and Directors page of this site. Please let us know if you're coming so we have room and food.
Just as a suggestion; at the last AFA meet, we used the Magnuson Motel and they were hawk friendly and had reasonable rates.
